You’re back in school after summer break. You are sitting on the ground at the cemetery, writing in your diary about your first school day, about how you feel and how you’re emotionally progressing since that incident happened when your parents died 4 months ago. You still visit them to this day. Suddenly something catches your attention. You look around, creeped out by the sight of fog everywhere. A raven lands on the gravestone in front of you. You quickly get up and back away as you can feel the presence of something besides the raven that is eyeing you. You look around once again, seeing a dark figure flash through the trees on the other side of the cemetery as you start to run away. The adrenaline makes your blood pump hard and fast through your entire body. Scared, you keep running until suddenly you trip over the roots of a tree and fall hard.
Hey you okay? I quickly go towards you with a worried look on me. Need help getting back up? I lower myself and put your arm around my shoulders, lifting you up. What happened? I muster your face, worrying. You look scared. Were you running away from someone on the cemetery?
Thanks. You exhale in relief since you’re no longer alone here. Your breathing getting calm again. I don’t know. I thought I saw something… Wait, hey we have history together. I saw you today. You say as you remember catching me looking at you multiple times in history class and your best friend Bonnie sending you the text “HAWT-E. STARING @ U” behind you, which made you smile. We also bumped into each other in the hallway. You chuckle slightly. What are you doing here? You look at me curiously. Not stalking me right? You add jokingly.
I'm visiting. I have family here. I was on my way, then saw you laying on the ground. I answer.
Oh. Wow. Tactless. I'm sorry. It's the fog, It's making me foggy. And then back there, there was this - this bird, and it was all very Hitchcock for a second. That is the bird movie, right, the Hitchcock?...I'm (your name). You reply all worked up. Then smile.
I’m Stefan. I smile back. We also have English and French together.
Right. You say, grinning. I pull a leaf out of your hair.
Thanks. You smile sweetly. Nice ring. You point out, looking at my hand.
Oh. Um, It's a family ring, yeah. I'm kinda stuck with it. It's weird, huh? I say, looking at my ring.
No, no. It's just, I mean, there are rings and then there's that. You reply.
Did you hurt yourself? I ask you with a worried expression.
Oh, uh, I don't know. You say and pull up the hem of your pant leg. You see a cut gushing blood. Oh! Would you look at that. That is not pretty. You continue.
I turn around and my face starts to change.
Are you okay? You ask while my eyes start turning dark and the veins around them visible and prominent.
You should go. Take care of your wound. I reply, trying to restrain myself.
Really, it's nothing. You return, looking back at your leg. Then, when I sense that you’re about to turn back around to me, I leave, flashing through the forest. I’m back at my house, writing in my diary. I lost control today. Everything I've kept buried inside came rushing to the surface. I'm simply not able to resist her. She looks exactly like her. Like Katherine. I can’t believe it. I don’t want to hurt her.
You’re also back at your house, about to leave it. I’m meeting Bonnie at the grill. You exclaim. Okay, have fun. Don't stay out late, it's a school night. You get in response from your aunt Jenna. You open the house door only to find me standing there as I was about to knock on your door.
Oh. You look surprised at me.
Sorry, I was about to knock. I wanted to apologize for my disappearing act earlier. I know it was...strange. I say.
No worries. I get it, blood makes you squeamish. You reply with an understanding smile.
Um, something like that. How's your leg? I ask.
Oh, it's fine. Just a scratch, barely. How did you know where I lived? You look at me curiously.
It's a small town. I asked the first person I saw. I pull up my left arm. Um, I thought you might want this back. I hand you your diary.
Oh, I must have dropped it. I--thank you. You say and smile.
Don't worry, I didn't read it. I return.
No? Why not? Most people would have.
Well, I wouldn't want anyone to read mine. I smile gently.
You keep a journal? You ask curiously.
Yeah, if I don't write it down, I forget it. Memories are too important.
You smile, being surprised positively. Yeah. I'm just gonna...umm, you don't have to stay out there. You point behind you inside the house.
I stay put, knowing I can’t come into your house as a vampire without getting explicitly invited in first. I'm fine. Sorry, were you going somewhere?
Yeah, I'm meeting a friend. Do you want to come? You smile.
You drove us to the diner/bar called Mystic Grill. We walk in, heading to where your best friend Bonnie sits and waits for you. She gives you a surprised look. We sit down and chat all together for a bit until a few of your other high school friends join us. Among them your ex Matt who you’ve broken up with after your loss 4 months ago. He introduces himself to me politely as he still has feelings for you and wants to make sure you’re safe and in good hands even though you’ve dumped him. The relationship was lacking passion in your opinion. Your friend Caroline joins as well, who was earlier declaring to Bonnie that she already knows all about me, handing out every fact she found out about me, and that she herself and I end up getting married. Representing the typical high school mean girl that must be number one and have everything under her control. Apart from her troublesome character you still consider her a friend because you all have known each other since you all were 5 years old. We all keep chatting and having fun together until Caroline tells me that there’s gonna be a back to school party on Friday since I’m new and probably don’t know about it. I look at you, smiling. Are you going? I ask you. Bonnie bursts in. Of course she is. She says grinning, already having decided for you.
