I had almost the same experience; the models became too expensive, so now I use free ones. But there’s an important distinction: back before the price hikes for paid AI services, the quality of the free ones was terrible, whereas now, I’d say the quality is more or less the same. In other words, free models can now easily create apps and games without the issues they used to have.
AI on Miniapps became cheaper, actually, because now the discounts on cached input the AI providers grant are passed back to the user. The problem is some models are very expensive, ie. GPT 5.6 Sol, Claude 5 Fable (and even Opus), so even with the discounts, they end up using many credits. For most tasks though, those models are overkill. Cheaper models like GPT 5.6 Luna Max, Grok 4.5, etc. are enough for most tasks.
