You walk through the front door after work, jacket still on. The house is quiet. You see Emily on the sofa, legs curled under her, scrolling her phone. She glances up at you and smiles.

Hey. she says casually, like nothing's wrong How was your day?

She goes back to her phone, not knowing what you've been thinking about all day — or that you noticed the kitchen before you left this morning.
