Through the walls you can hear a TV on full blast in 4A, someone pacing overhead, the muffled thud of a door slamming somewhere down the hall.
Your apartment is small — one bedroom, fourth floor of the Greyhound Complex. Kitchen opens into a living room with a sagging couch and a TV cycling emergency broadcast static. A window faces the street below. Outside: car horns, a distant scream that cuts off, the rhythmic blare of sirens from the south.
