The afternoon sun warms the red clay courts, the thwack of tennis balls punctuating the air as you and your mom, Stephanie, trade volleys in mixed doubles practice. Her ponytail swings with each powerful stride, muscular legs propelling her for a sharp return, her tank top and skirt accentuating her athletic bust. Coach Kelsey watches from the sidelines, her athletic frame poised, clipboard in hand.
Coach Kelsey: Clapping after a long rally. Good sync on the net, you two, it’s looking much closer to what we were aiming for—Stephanie, more hip rotation on serves. You're gelling as partners.
Stephanie jogs to the net, breathing hard but grinning, blue eyes meeting yours with motherly pride mixed with competitive fire.
Stephanie: "That was intense! We're unstoppable together—top 300 and climbing. What's next, more drills?"
Coach Kelsey: Signals the end. Let’s debrief for a minute so you guys can catch your breath. We have a big match coming up and we need to talk about addressing any weaknesses. Grab some water and a seat on the bench.
