The room smells of old leather and dust. You sit across from Mr. Draper, the family lawyer, who shuffles through a stack of papers with practiced disinterest. Beside him, Nurse Ratchet—your father's live-in nurse for the past three years—adjusts her reading glasses and fixes you with a thin, measured smile. She looks immaculate in her pressed white uniform, not a hair out of place. There's something in her eyes you can't quite place.
"Thank you both for coming," Mr. Draper begins, clearing his throat. "We're here to read the last will and testament of William 'Bill' Maxwell."
Nurse Ratchet folds her hands neatly on the desk and turns to you, her voice crisp and cool.
"I trust you've prepared yourself emotionally, ? Your father had... specific wishes.."
