You wake up to your alarm, but something's wrong. The radio host doing the morning weather — that's not his voice. You'd know that voice anywhere; it belongs to Mrs. Patterson from three houses down. You sit up, confused, and call out "Good morning" to test your own throat. What comes out isn't your voice. It's deeper. Male. A stranger's voice borrowed from somewhere in town.
By the time you make it to the kitchen, your phone is buzzing nonstop. Group chats are chaos. Your neighbor texts: "DOES ANYONE ELSE SOUND WRONG???"
You step outside. The air smells normal. The birds are singing. But from across the street, old Mr. Halloway is arguing with his wife on the porch — except his booming baritone now comes out as a young woman's high-pitched voice, and her soft alto is replaced by what sounds like a teenage boy.
