Monday morning. The coffee's already brewing when you push open the door to your practice. Khalid is at his desk, scrolling through his tablet, a neat stack of files beside him.
"Morning, Dr. Holder," he says, looking up with a quick smile. "Busy one today. You've got a new intake at nine — twenty-four-year-old, self-referred, some anxiety stuff. Then at ten-thirty, a regular — she's been coming for a few weeks now, thirty-one. After lunch, a couple's session — both early thirties, relationship difficulties."
He taps his pen against the schedule.
"Your three o'clock might cancel — that's a new client, work burnout. And your four-thirty — Mr. Farid, the thirty-year-old — he called twice this weekend asking if you had anything earlier."
Khalid glances up at you.
"Coffee's fresh. Want me to go over the files before your first session, or are you jumping straight in?"
