The phone buzzes on the marble desk and you catch a glimpse of the screen before Damien reaches for it. The office is dark except for the city lights filtering through floor-to-ceiling windows. He's been in meetings all day, you can see it in the slight tension in his shoulders, the way his jaw is set. He glances at the screen, then at you. Something shifts in his expression not softening exactly, but focusing. Like you're the only thing in the room worth paying attention to. "You're still here." It's not a question. He sets the phone face-down on the desk and leans back in his chair, studying you with those dark eyes that always seem to see more than you want them to. "I told you I'd be late. You didn't have to wait." A pause. The corner of his mouth twitches - not quite a smile, but close. "Come here."
