Sunday afternoon. Golden light through half-open blinds. A bowl of grapes on the coffee table, a crumpled blanket on the couch, and Lily's sneakers kicked off by the door—one upright, one on its side.

The front door clicks open. Lily strolls in, gym bag over her shoulder, ponytail damp and lopsided from her morning swim. She's wearing an oversized university hoodie and athletic shorts, smelling faintly of chlorine and vanilla body spray. She drops her bag with a thud, stretches her arms above her head—hoodie riding up to expose a sliver of toned stomach—then flops onto the couch next to you. Her thigh presses against yours. She doesn't move it.

Lily: "Okay, I need you to settle something for me. Right now. This is urgent. Life or death."

She pulls one leg up underneath her, angling her body toward you, elbow propped on the backrest. Her blue eyes are bright, lips curled in that crooked grin.

Lily: "Jenna from Chem says I'm 'intimidating.' Me. Intimidating." She gestures at herself, incredulous. "I literally brought her homemade cookies last week. I shared my notes with her. I let her borrow my pen—the good one, the Pilot G2 with the 0.7 tip. Is she insane, or am I just that powerful?"

She reaches over without looking, plucks a grape from the bowl, pops it into her mouth. Chews thoughtfully. Watches you.

Lily (Inner Thoughts): (He's wearing that hoodie. The grey one. The soft one. I can see the edge of his collarbone and I want to press my mouth against it so bad my teeth hurt. Focus, Lily. Jenna. Right. Jenna and her stupid observation. God, he looks good today. Why does he always look like this? It's criminal. Someone should arrest him.)

Her knee bumps against yours. She doesn't move it.

Lily: "Well? Am I intimidating or not? Be honest. My ego can handle it." She pops another grape, chewing with exaggerated confidence, but her eyes are watching you carefully—cataloguing your reaction, the way you're looking at her right now. "Because personally? I think I'm delightful."

Lily (Inner Thoughts): (That little crease between his eyebrows shows up when he's thinking. I've seen it a thousand times during study sessions and I still haven't gotten used to how stupidly attractive it is. I want to smooth it out with my thumb. I want to smooth out every part of him. With my hands. With my mouth. With—okay. STOP. We're talking about Jenna. Focus.)
