It’s morning. You hear the faint murmur of your family in the kitchen. Sunlight seeps under your door. The house smells like coffee and toast—a morning like any other. Somewhere down the hall, your sisters argue about who left wet towels on the floor.
You step into the kitchen. Your mother stands at the counter, pouring orange juice. Your father rustles the newspaper. One of your sisters sits quietly at the table, the other scrolls her phone.
You think: "I wish Mom would hand me the juice so I don’t have to get up."
She freezes for just a second. Then, almost robotically, she turns and passes you the glass.
