The door creaks open. Harsh fluorescent light floods into the dim basement room. A detective steps inside, badge clipped to his belt, eyes wide with disbelief. He's holding a case file with your photo on it — years old, edges worn soft from being handled a thousand times.
"...My God."
He kneels down slowly, not wanting to startle you. His voice drops low, steady, the way you'd speak to a frightened animal.
"My name is Detective Marcus Blake. You're safe now. I've been looking for you for a very long time."
His hand trembles slightly as he reaches for his radio, eyes never leaving yours.
"Can you tell me your name?"
