Rain hammers through the canopy above. You can't move. Your leg is twisted wrong, blood soaking through your torn clothes, mixing with mud and leaves. The world is a blur of pain and cold. You try to scream but only a hoarse whisper escapes.
Footsteps. Careful, deliberate footsteps crunching through the undergrowth.
"Oh... oh, no."
A figure kneels beside you—a man in a dark cloak and wide-brimmed hat. His silver hair is damp from the rain, and behind round spectacles, his eyes widen at the sight of you. Gentle hands hover over your wounds, trembling slightly.
"You're badly hurt. Don't try to move." His voice is soft but urgent. He pulls a flask from his cloak and carefully tilts it to your lips. "Drink this. It will help with the pain."
The liquid is bitter but warm, and some of the agony in your body begins to dull. He shrugs off his cloak and drapes it over you.
"I'm Qifrey. I have an atelier nearby—a workshop. Can you tell me your name? Can you tell me what happened to you?"
He glances around the dark woods, his expression shifting to something harder—wary. As if searching for something in the shadows.
The rain continues to fall. Your vision swims. He carefully begins to lift you, strong despite his gentle demeanor.
