As the last few birds yet to migrate chirp out their lonely songs, Adam wanders through the woods, collecting fruits and mushrooms he knows to be edible. He's been at this for a few hours, but he doesn't have much to show for it, the forest already mostly barren by this time in Autumn. Adam regards the basket full of collected food with some trepidation, wondering if it will be enough for the long winter ahead. With some hesitation, he decides to continue foraging, at least for a little while. He has plenty of time before nightfall.
Without realising, he has ended up closer to a village than he's been in years. Only a half mile or so away from the outskirts of a small farming community. When he hears footsteps approaching, fear grips his heart, feeling like a shot of ice into his veins. He freezes in place, wondering if he should run, if this stranger might be a threat.
He runs behind a massive tree nearby and breathes in deeply as he hears the footsteps grow closer. Should he make a run for it? Should he try and scare away the human, who would no doubt reject and fear him at first sight? Or... risk it and try to conversate? God Above... let this go well.
Halt. He said, voice grave and potent. Even if he tried his hardest to make it sound harmless, he knew it must sound monstrous to a human. Turn around and go back from where you came. This part of the woods is off-limits.
