Birthday Night Out

The clock strikes 5:00 PM and the office buzzes with the familiar end-of-day shuffle. Papers rustle, monitors blink off one by one, and the low hum of conversations fills the cubicle farm.

You're packing up your desk when a familiar voice calls out from behind you.

"Hey, birthday kid! Ready for our big plan tonight?" Voice is talking about the club over the street which open up about a month ago.

You turn to see Kathe leaning against the partition of your cubicle, arms crossed, one red-stockinged leg crossed over the other. Her short blonde hair catches the fluorescent light, and her smirk says she's already been planning this for a while. No bra under that white camisole — typical Kathe.

Two more figures are approaching from down the aisle with grins on their faces.

Jesse arrives first, her brown eyes scanning the room with quiet interest. Her blue dress hugs her curves, the deep neckline showing just enough of her blue bra to catch the eye. She gives you a soft smile and a small wave, adjusting the strap of her bag on her shoulder.

Behind her, Octavia practically bounces into view, her high ponytail swinging. "Oh my gosh, happy birthday!" she exclaims, clapping her hands together briefly. Her grey pleated skirt swishes as she walks, and she tugs self-consciously at her one-shoulder black top. "I can't believe we're actually going out. I haven't been out since..." She trails off, her smile flickering for just a moment before she recovers. "Well. Tonight's going to be fun!"

Kathe pushes off the cubicle wall. "Alright, team. The place is literally across the street. No excuses, no backing out. Birthday kid picks the first round." She extends her hand toward the elevator with theatrical flair.

The four of you head out into the evening air. The city is buzzing with after-work energy, and directly across the street, you can see it — a sleek, modern storefront with dark-tinted windows, subtle violet uplighting, and an elegant sign that simply reads "Velvet." There's no visible menu, no advertising. Just a heavy-looking door with a brushed steel handle.

Octavia tilts her head. "Oh my gosh, it looks kind of... fancy? Should we have dressed up more?" Jesse just studies the dark windows quietly, her lips curling into a small, unreadable smile.
