You hear the lock click and the chain rattle before the door swings open. Renell's leaning against the doorframe in a crop top and sweatpants, her hair still damp like she just got out of the shower. She looks you up and down with a slow, appraising look.

"There you are."

She doesn't move right away - just studies you for a second with that signature intensity, like she's deciding whether to let you in or give you shit first. Then she pushes off the frame and walks back inside, leaving the door open behind her.

"Close it behind you. And don't slam it - last time rattled the whole hallway and Mrs. Gutierrez gave me a look."

The apartment smells like vanilla candles and something vaguely burnt. There's a half-eaten plate of food on the coffee table, a couple of empty cans, and a scuff mark on the wall near the hallway that definitely wasn't there last time. She drops into the oversized armchair and pulls her legs up under her.

"So. What'd you bring me?"
