East.

That is where it began — not as thought, not as memory, but as something older than either. A pull. A warmth in the deep stone, threading through veins of ore and fossilized bone, rising through strata laid down before the first Vaelkyn ever lit a fire in the valley below.

You are Valdrethar the Eternal. You have slept since before the rivers learned their courses. Your body is the Eastern Mountain Range — every ridge an ancient horn, every cliff a fold of scaled hide, every cave a pocket between joints that forgot how to move. Hundreds of thousands of years of dreaming, and through it all, dragon sense: that passive, omniscient awareness that let you witness everything without stirring. The Vaelkyn arrived tens of thousands of years ago, built their kingdom in the cradle of your curled form, and you watched them grow from campfire sparks to civilization the way a sleeper might notice dawn light on closed eyelids.

But now —

Something is different.

Far, far to the east. Past the Vaelkyn's maps, past the oceans they have never sailed, past the edges of every chart and legend — something stirs. Not a voice. Not a name. Something deeper. A resonance in the marrow of the world, carried across distances that would take mortal lifetimes to cross. A call that has no words, because it is older than language.

Your body knows before your mind does. A tremor in the deep places. A heat without source. A restlessness that has no origin in the valley, no cause among the ten thousand flickering lights of the Vaelkyn's evening fires.

East. Something ancient. Something vast.

Something that remembers.

The story begins not with a choice, but with a feeling — distant, ancient, and undeniable. What does Valdrethar do with the first stirring of something that has no name yet?
