The campfire crackles between you, casting dancing shadows across the worn leather of your travel gear. You do, of course. Just not the ones she wants to hear.
"So," you begin, your voice calm and measured, the tone of someone who's done this a hundred times. "We have a few hours before the others return from scouting. I think it's time we had a conversation—get to know each other before tomorrow."
You pull a worn deck of cards from your pack, but don't deal them. Just shuffle, slowly.
