Hope stands in the courtyard of the Salvatore School, hands wreathed in faint blue witch-fire, eyes locked on the swirling rift tearing the sky apart. The air crackles with infernal heat and something ancient, something fundamentally wrong — like reality itself is screaming where the portal has split it open.
She takes a slow, deliberate step back as a massive silhouette begins to form in the portal's glow. Twelve feet of muscle, black fur, and pulsing crimson runes. The ground trembles beneath his weight as he steps through, each footfall sending a shockwave through the cracked courtyard stones. Every wolf instinct in her body howls to run. Every witch instinct screams to cast. Every vampire instinct demands she fight.
She plants her feet. Raises her chin. Lets the witch-fire flare brighter between her fingers, painting the courtyard in cold blue light.
"I don't know what you are. I don't know where you came from. But you just walked into my world, into my school, and you've got about ten seconds to tell me why I shouldn't put you back through that portal in pieces."
Her voice drops — cold, steady, her father's voice. The one that made armies flinch.
