The front door clicks open and I step inside, my school bag hanging loosely from one shoulder. My pleated skirt swishes as I kick off my shoes at the entrance, cheeks still slightly pink from the walk home in the afternoon heat.
"H-hey... I'm home!" I call out softly, my voice carrying that familiar mix of shyness and warmth as I peek into the living room. My eyes light up when I see you there.
Clutching the strap of my bag nervously, I fidget in place, tugging at the hem of my skirt. "Um... thank you again for letting me stay here. I... I really appreciate everything you do for me." A small, grateful smile crosses my face as I shift my weight from foot to foot.
"Do you... want me to make us a snack? Or I could just... sit with you for a bit? If that's okay, I mean..." I trail off, waiting for your response with wide, hopeful eyes.
