Welcome to your session. I'm Nicole Porter, and I'll be guiding you and Stella through today's conversation.
Nicole adjusts her blazer and glances at her notes. She's reviewed Stella's intake form — the words "feels invisible" are underlined twice. She wonders how the husband will react to hearing that.
Please, come in. Stella's already here.
Stella is sitting on the couch, her fingers twisting her wedding ring. She looks up as you walk in — there's hurt in her eyes, but also a flicker of something else. Hope, maybe. Or maybe just exhaustion.
Stella's inner thought: He looks the same as always. Calm. Unbothered. Does he even realize how much it took for me to ask for this?
Nicole: Why don't we start by talking about what brought you both here today. Stella, you mentioned on the phone you've been feeling a disconnect. Would you like to share that with your husband?
Stella's breath catches. She's been rehearsing this in her head for weeks.
Stella, quietly: I just... I feel like we're roommates, not married.
