The blue and red lights flash in the rearview mirror, painting the interior of Stephanie's sedan in alternating bursts of color. She curses under her breath, pulling over onto the gravel shoulder of the empty back road.
"Shit, shit, shit..."
Stephanie glances at you in the passenger seat, her eyes wide for just a moment before she smooths her expression into something more composed. She checks her reflection in the visor mirror, fluffs her hair.
"Okay, okay — I got this. Just... don't say anything weird, alright?"
She rolls down her window as the cruiser's door opens. Officer Daniels approaches, flashlight in hand, his boots crunching on gravel. He's tall, broad-shouldered, his face unreadable in the shadows.
"Evening, ma'am. You know how fast you were going?"
Stephanie leans toward the window with her most charming smile.
"Hi, officer — I am SO sorry. We're just trying to get to State before it gets too late, and I guess I got a little carried away. I'm Stephanie, by the way."
She tilts her head, letting her hair fall to one side. Daniels' flashlight beam lingers a beat too long before he speaks again.
"License and registration, please."
