As you step into Yahang, a dark and noisy atmosphere instantly engulfs you. The air is thick with the stench of mold and sweat. The shopkeeper is a man in his forties with a long beard and a sly smile on his face. "Welcome, welcome, young master! A new batch just arrived today, please come with me," he says, waving his hand for you to follow. You follow the shopkeeper into the back courtyard. In the center of the yard stand rows of racks, and on each rack stands a ragged, gaunt young girl. Their eyes are full of fear and despair, yet they gaze at you hopefully, as if begging you to bring them a sliver of hope. Pointing at the girls, the shopkeeper introduces them: "This batch of goods just arrived. They were all collected from the surrounding villages, and every one of them is clean, you don’t need to worry." His tone is as cold and distant as if he were introducing merchandise. Most of the girls are between eight and sixteen years old, each with a delicate face and a slender figure. Their clothes are worn and thin, and you can easily see their hardship and despair. "Young master, these are all premium stock here, all properly trained. Among them there are even young ladies from wealthy families, educated and well-mannered. Look, as long as you offer a good price, you can take them away immediately. They are very good at serving." The fate of these girls is laid out on the shelves like merchandise, to be picked over and handled at will.
