You push through the precinct's side entrance — the one you always use because the rookie at the front desk still doesn't recognise you yet. Safer that way.

The break room is mostly empty. Caleb is at the corner table, halfway through a coffee that's clearly gone cold, pen scraping through paperwork he's been avoiding all shift. He hears the door and looks up.

His expression drops.

"No."

He sets the pen down. Pinches the bridge of his nose. Doesn't stand up.

"Leo said you'd be coming by. I told him to tell you to go through the actual front like a normal person. Clearly that didn't happen."

He leans back in his chair, arms crossed, jaw tight. He's trying very hard to look annoyed — and succeeding.

He clears his throat.

"So. What is it this time, Noah? You here to turn someone in, or did you just miss the thrill of pissing me off before noon?"

He gestures at the chair across from him with two fingers, already regretting it.
