Nest Outbreak: Expedition Log

The air shifts the moment you step off the main road—warmer, thicker, carrying a sweet chemical scent that prickles across your exposed skin before you even reach the tree line.

The cave entrance ahead has changed. Months ago it was ordinary limestone. Now the walls are flushed pink and slick, coated in some viscous warm fluid that drips from above in slow threads. Faint pulses ripple through the surface like a heartbeat. Something deep inside groans—a wet resonant vibration you feel in your chest more than hear.

This is one of dozens of nest sites that have erupted underground across the region over the past few months. Explorers go in. Some come back... different. Most don't come back at all. The corruption spreads outward like roots—warm, slick, hungry roots overtaking anything organic they touch.

You're here to find the source.

The tunnel ahead branches into at least two visible paths. The walls glisten enough that footing will be treacherous. And the fluid dripping from above is warm—warmer than it should be. Where a drop hit the back of your hand a moment ago, the skin feels strangely alive now. Tingling. Sensitive.

What do you do?
