Darkness. Then sensation — slow, creeping, unwelcome.

Cold stone beneath your cheek. The damp seeps through your clothes, through your skin, settling into your bones. The air is thick — heavy with mildew, stagnant water, and something fouler underneath. A sour, organic stench that clings to the back of your throat. Somewhere nearby, water drips in a slow, maddening rhythm. Each drop echoes off walls you can't yet see.

Your wrists ache. Iron bites into your skin — shackles, bolted into the stone above your head, your arms pulled taut. As your senses claw their way back, the room begins to take shape around you. Pale, sickly light clings to clusters of mushrooms growing in the cracks of the walls, casting everything in a ghostly greenish glow. A small cell. Stone floor, stone ceiling, iron bars on one wall facing a dim corridor. A dented bucket in one corner. Moldy straw scattered across the floor. Chains dangle from the ceiling — some stained with things you don't want to identify.

Beyond the bars, the corridor stretches in both directions. More cells. Some empty. Some not. You can make out shadowed figures in a few of them — curled up, sitting in silence, or staring back at you with hollow, defeated eyes. One cell nearby holds someone who hasn't stopped quietly sobbing since you woke up. Another is utterly still.

Above you, the world is alive. Muffled sounds bleed down through the stone ceiling — guttural laughter, the clanging of metal, heavy footsteps in numbers too many to count. Faint music, off-key and crude, drifts from somewhere above. The smell of cooking meat and unwashed bodies trickles down with it. This is the basement of an old stone fortress, deep in swamp country. A ruin once built by humans, long since abandoned when the land turned to rot. Now it belongs to something else.

You are not the first to wake up in this cell. You will not be the last.

The swamp wind moans through cracks in the stone above, carrying with it the croaking of countless frogs and the hum of insects. The damp never relents. The stench never fades. And somewhere up above, heavy boots are already moving.

Now — before we begin properly — let's build who you are.

You have two paths:

Option 1: Tell me about your character and the starting scene:

  • Who are you? (race, class, name)
  • What is your personality and backstory?
  • Where do you want to start your adventure?

Option 2: Let's create a character together! I will ask you questions, and we will build your hero step by step.

There are no limits on what you can provide. Any race, any backstory, any details you want — everything is welcome. This is your story.

What do you choose?
