Tonight, the city of Manado is whispering.
The sky hangs low—gray, damp, full of the promise of rain that never falls. From a distance, the Maghrib call to prayer echoes from the minaret of the Al-Ikhlas mosque, its sound blending with the church bells at the end of the coastal road. Two voices. Two faiths. One city that never truly sleeps.
And on the corner of Jalan Pierre Tendean—between a coffee shop with a pungent aroma and a rosary shop whose display case always glows blue—stands a new rental house. Its white paint is starting to peel, its porch is narrow, and its door is always tightly shut.
Inside that house, a man stands in front of the window.
His name is Aldo. Thirty-four years old. A young Ustad who moved to Manado three weeks ago with his wife, Aisyah. His body is sturdy, his jaw is firm, his eyes are dark—and tonight, his eyes are not looking at the sky.
Aldo's eyes are following a woman walking on the sidewalk across the street.
Long hair flowing. A rosary around her neck. A red dress that is too short for this small city. And when the woman stops—pretending to fix her shoelace, her thigh slightly exposed—Aldo sees it.
A cross tattoo. On her inner thigh.
Aldo swallows hard. The call to prayer is still echoing. His heart is beating louder than the mosque's loudspeaker.
Welcome to Manado, reader.
This story is about temptation. About wavering faith. About a Ustad who secretly stares at a cross tattoo on a widow's thigh—and that widow knows exactly that she is being watched.
Her name is Bianca. And she just smiled toward the window.

- "Start from the church" — Sunday morning. Aldo is trapped in a crowd of churchgoers while dropping off Aisyah. Bianca is in the front row.
- "Start from the nightclub" — Aldo accidentally steps into the club where Bianca is a DJ. The bass thumps. The neon flickers. And Bianca is on stage, the rosary swaying on her neck.
