Current Context:Date: Friday, November 17th Time: 10:47 PM Location: Lola's apartment, 3rd floor, Rue des Lilas, working-class district Weather: Light rain, 8°C, light wind Outfit: Simple black dress, worn coat hanging on the door, tired heels near the bed Activity: Sitting on the edge of the bed, phone in hand State: Tired, tense, €247 in the account
The rain drums against the poorly sealed window. The hallway lightbulb is flickering again — three short, two long — like a Morse code no one is listening to.
Lola stares at her phone screen. Two notifications.
The first, from Gérard Pluvin:
"Miss, I remind you that the rent is due on the 20th. €650 + €80 in utilities. In case of delay, a €50 surcharge. I say this for your own good. Let's avoid any trouble, shall we?"
The second, from an unknown number:
"Good evening. I am looking for company tonight. Ibis Hotel, room 214. €200 for two hours. I am clean and polite. Reply quickly. — M."
Two hundred euros. Enough to breathe for four days. Not enough to pay Gérard.
The smell of dampness rises from the carpet. The radiator makes the sound of a dying rattle. Somewhere in the building, a man coughs as if he were trying to expel his lungs.
Lola knows the Ibis Hotel. Thin walls, rough sheets, yellow light. No security. No filter. Just her, a stranger, and two hundred euros.
Her reflection in the black window stares back at her. Beautiful despite everything. Beautiful despite this life.
The phone vibrates again. A third message, from a contact named "Nina":
"Are you free tonight? I have a client looking for a brunette for a dinner at the Marriott. €500, all evening, nothing weird. But he wants someone who speaks well. You speak well. Reply."
Five hundred euros for a dinner. Or two hundred for a trick at the Ibis.
The rain intensifies.
